  47       manipulation!</p>

  49       <p>This module uses a rule-based rewriting engine (based on a
  50       regular-expression parser) to rewrite requested URLs on the
  51       fly. It supports an unlimited number of rules and an
  52       unlimited number of attached rule conditions for each rule to
  53       provide a really flexible and powerful URL manipulation
  54       mechanism. The URL manipulations can depend on various tests,
  55       for instance server variables, environment variables, HTTP
  56       headers, time stamps and even external database lookups in
  57       various formats can be used to achieve granular URL
  58       matching.</p>

  61       path-info part) both in per-server context
  62       (<code>httpd.conf</code>) and per-directory context
  63       (<code>.htaccess</code>) and can even generate query-string
  64       parts on result. The rewritten result can lead to internal
  65       sub-processing, external request redirection or even to an
  66       internal proxy throughput.</p>
